Rushden's Mayor - Cllr Barbara Jenney
One of the more unusual invitations I have received was a request to be present for a Tapathon in support of Children in Need. The Tapathon was a world record attempt to get over 8000 tap dancers across the country performing a set routine simultaneously. Strict timing saw 43 dancers from Shelmerick School of Dancing taking part plus one. I am delighted to say that I was able to do more than just be there to give my support, ...I was able to swell the number to 44. Despite two weeks of feverish practice, my effort was in true Eric Morecombe style – the right steps but not entirely in the right order. Thank you to Shelmerick School of Dancing for allowing me to be a participant rather than an observer. Not only can I say I've been there, done that, but I have also got the tee-shirt and a certificate.
Although we didn't break the world record 78 short!!! Over £38,000 was raised for Children in Need which is amazing I think you'll agree.
