UPDATE ON ADVANCE IMPROVEMENT WORKS – A45 / A6 CHOWNS MILL ROUNDABOUT PROGRAMME AMENDMENT

UPDATE ON ADVANCE IMPROVEMENT WORKS – A45 / A6 CHOWNS MILL ROUNDABOUT PROGRAMME AMENDMENT

Highways England have today announced the following:-

Over the last few weeks we have been monitoring the impact of Network Rail's roadworks on the A45 at Higham Road Bridge. We understand that delivering advance works at the Chowns Mill Roundabout will put added pressure on the local road network, as well as businesses and communities. We have therefore made the decision to reduce our current programme of works.

Work will still be carried out to the existing carriageway on the A5028 section of the A45 / A6 Chowns Mill roundabout. This will involve the installation of new ducts for utility and telecom providers, site clearance and excavation of trial pits to locate and hot tap a MOD redundant oil pipeline.

Further essential preparatory work for our main Chowns Mill roundabout improvement scheme, scheduled for early 2020, is still required and will be carried out on a future date.
When will the work take place?

Work is due to start on 4 March 2019 and the scheme is scheduled for completion by the morning of 8 March 2019.
We will work overnight under a full carriageway closure between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Thursday.

Please note that all our planned roadworks may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
How will the work affect traffic?

To maintain a safe environment for our workforce and customers, the A5028 will be closed to through traffic while we work. Lane closures are also necessary on the A45 / A6 and speed restrictions may be put in place on these arms of the roundabout.

During these closures we will put in place a fully signed diversion route which has been agreed with the Local Authority.
Please refer to the attached drawing for further detailed information.

How will the work affect residents?
Access for residents will be possible by following the diversion where necessary.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will do our very best to complete the work as quickly as possible, keeping disturbances and noise to a minimum.
