European Elections for the East Midlands Region

European Parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place on Thursday 23 May following agreement by the European Union and UK to extend the Brexit deadline to the 31 October 2019.

Residents are reminded that there are no local council elections for East Northamptonshire Council on 2 May. The Government has postponed Northamptonshire's local elections by one year following the proposals to restructure councils in the county. Any polling cards you receive in the coming weeks will be for the European election only.

The deadline for registering to vote in time for the European parliamentary election is midnight on Tuesday, 7 May. Those registering to vote for the first time can do so online at

All postal vote applications need to be completed and sent to East Northamptonshire Council's Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday 8 May.

Applications to vote by proxy – when someone votes on your behalf - must be received by East Northamptonshire Council's Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday 15 May. If an elector falls ill or is called away on business after that date, they may be able to apply for an emergency proxy up to 5pm on Thursday 23 May.
