Highways England - A6 South Bypass - vehicle fire

Information just received - Highways England - A6 South Bypass - vehicle fire

12pm 23 July 2021

We're aware of a vehicle on fire on the A6 (South) Bypass between the Chowns Mill roundabout and Rushden (Kimbolton Road roundabout)

Emergency services are dealing with the incident and traffic management of it.

As a result of the fire, we'll be carrying out emergency repairs to the road surface tonight, which will involve removing the damaged surface areas and laying tarmac.

We are working closer to residents near the A6 Bypass:

Some residents may hear louder noises than usual, from machines used for removing the old road surface layer, and then laying the new surface layers.

There will be additional lighting in the area and some machines will use amber flashing lights and reversing beepers for safety reasons. Some residents may feel some vibration from the use of the asphalt planer & vibrating roller, which is needed to compact the layers of asphalt.

We appreciate this work can be a source of frustration to local residents, especially at night and in the current hot weather, we apologise in advance for any disruption caused – we will continue to monitor the noise & levels of vibration to meet British standards and prevent damage to properties. All staff will be briefed about our standards when working close the residential areas.

Residents are reminded of the 24/7 Customer Telephone number, should they wish to speak directly to the duty supervisor 0333 0124 596
