Rushden Hall's warm welcome for opening of community warm rooms
Last Friday, Rushden Town Council launched its Warm Rooms initiative which are to be held on Fridays afternoons from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm.
Several members of the community attended the opening where they were greeted and welcomed by councillors and staff and invited into the Panelled Room for refreshments at Rushden Hall.
Town Councillor, Janet Pinnock described the council's first warm rooms event as a "friendly and sociable afternoon with lots of chatting and laughter amongst guests." Janet said "we have plenty of games on offer for those who enjoy a game of cards, scrabble or dominoes, and encourage others to bring their knitting, sewing, or anything they are stuck on and would perhaps need a bit of help with, or just to come along to read a book or be with people for a chat and a laugh."
Attendee, Trish Pat Collins made these comments about her experience, "I have to say it was a lot of fun, I'll definitely be back next week and I can recommend this as a way to spend a Friday afternoon."
The new community warm rooms are free of charge and available to all residents of the town, providing a welcoming space for people to keep warm whilst socialising as energy costs continue to rise.
The Town Council will trial the initiative until Christmas and if successful will carry it on into the New Year.
The afternoon has been registered with Warm Welcome, a directory which lists organisations that provide free, warm, welcoming spaces throughout the UK.
with thanks to the Coop for supplying some of the refreshments for the day.
